We watched a pretty good movie last night, called Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.
When we read the title we weren’t too optimistic, although it did feature some cool stars like Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt. It was written by Simon Beaufoy who also did Slumdog Millionaire.
The story revolves around an ultra-rich Sheikh in the Yemen who wants to introduce natural salmon fishing in his mostly-arid country. He is opposed from all quarters because of the impossibility of the task, and the reluctance of the Yemenis to welcome the West into their land.
Of course that’s not the sole focus of the movie; there are one or two love stories, political controversies, faith (and swimming against the current), and sprinklings of funny moments too.
Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit.
