Using a Watch as a Compass

If you’re ever in a hiking or survival situation where you need to find direction by ascertaining a certain compass point, here’s an easy way to find North or South.

It involves using a simple analog watch (not digital):
If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, face the sun and aim the 12 on the watch dial into the sun.
The true north line will lie exactly halfway between the 12 and the hour hand. So now you have North, and you’ll obviously be able work out all the other points.

If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s a little different:

You will need to point the hour hand at the sun.  And now the line halfway between the hour hand and the number 12 will point due South.
