A book review of The Associate by John Grisham
Kyle McAvoy is a tee-totalling, straight-A Yale Law Student with bags of potential. He is a brilliant young mind who is destined to become a dynamic, highly-paid lawyer. That is until a secret catches up with him and his past comes back to haunt him.
A person from his distant memory returns to accuse him of criminal behaviour. The FBI confront him with an inconclusive, but incriminating, video which complicates every aspect of his well put-together life. Everything he has worked for and achieved threatens to fall down around him.
Soon Kyle finds himself in a deadly game of blackmail. And with twisted irony he has to compromise everything he believes in in order to prevent his good name being destroyed forever.
Furthermore, to protect his friends he needs to drag them into the David vs Goliath fight as well.
I really enjoyed this book, and it gets you cheering on the underdog, hoping he can survive against the insurmountable odds.
