Life Advice from a Dying Dad

I was watching the movie John Q the other night. I’ve seen it before and I really enjoyed it. If you haven’t seen it, it’s basically about a father who’s son needs a heart transplant, but the family don’t have Health Insurance, and can’t afford the operation.

The father, played by Denzel Washington, then decides to take drastic action in order to save his son’s life.

There is a moment in the movie when the father believes his son might have to grow up without a Dad, and so he starts to give some good advice.

I thought some of things he said to him were really cool, and were well worth passing on. Here are some of the life tips he gave to his son:

  • Always listen to your mother; she’s your best friend.
  • Tell her you love her everyday
  • Your word is your bond, if you say you’re going to do something – do it.
  • Don’t smoke
  • Stay away from the bad things in life, there are so many beautiful things in the world.  Stay away from the bad things.
  • Treat girls like princesses
