Caster Semenya won a Silver medal in the Women’s 800m final at the Olympics, bringing South Africa’s total medal count to six. She finished the race in 1min57.23, 1.04 seconds behind the winner, Russia’s Mariya Savinova.
I’ve been amazed at the criticism and accusations levelled at Semenya for the way in which she ran the final.
She had been accused of poor tactics and even of not winning on purpose so as to not arouse too much controversy again.
She won a silver medal. That should be it. Well done.
SA has one more medal hope in Burry Stander in the Men’s Mountain Biking.
