Bitcoin Scam #1

Bitcoin has taken the world by storm.  Bitcoin millionaires and billionaires will certainly be minted in the coming years. There will be plenty of rags-to-riches stories to go around.

Note: (cryptocurrency is the term given to online currencies such as Bitcoin and Monero etc)

But, and this is a BIG BUT, there are many different kinds of cryptocurrency scams that are victimizing people who are new to the crypto world.

Con artists prey on those who don’t know the difference between a legitimate crypto platform and a fake one. Here is one giant red flag you should be aware of:

1 – The Website Has No SSL Certificate

It’s very important for a website that deals with cryptocurrencies to have an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate installed. Websites with no SSL only display HTTP before their domain names and websites with a Secure Sockets Layer show HTTPS.

Many scam websites are the “here today, gone tomorrow” type of site, which means once they’ve scammed a certain number of people, they’ll shut down that site and move on to a fresh domain. It’s quite easy to transfer website files from one domain to another; this is why these scammers can set up shop very quickly.

By far the safest way for South Africans to buy and trade Bitcoin is by using Ice Cubed. It is the one I personally use. It has very good security, free to sign up and only charges a tiny 1% transaction fee.  You can sign up for free here.
